The anatomy of a high-CTR thumbnail

The five ingredients nearly every top-performing Roblox thumbnail shares — and how to stack them.

Your thumbnail has one job: earn the tap. Players scroll past dozens of experiences in a few seconds, so a thumbnail isn't a poster of your game — it's an ad for a feeling. The best ones share the same skeleton.

1. One unmistakable focal point

Pick the single most exciting thing in your experience and make it huge. Usually that's a character mid-action. If a player can't tell what to look at within half a second, they won't look at all.

2. Three elements, max

A strong thumbnail is typically a character + a threat or reward + a short title. Everything else is noise at small sizes. When in doubt, delete.

3. Big emotion

Exaggerated expressions — shock, terror, triumph — are read instantly, even on a tiny screen. A neutral face reads as a boring game.

4. A question in the player's head

Show the moment before the payoff: the lava rising, the egg cracking, the door creaking open. Curiosity is what turns a glance into a tap.

5. Two to three words of title

Text should add something the image can't — a stake ("DON'T FALL"), a number ("999 STAGES") or a promise ("GET RICH"). Never repeat your game's full name.

Bloxlabs does this by default

Every concept is composed around one focal character and a 2–3 word title. Ask for "more dramatic" to push the emotion further.
